The MTA will once again ban alcohol consumption on Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains and on station platforms during SantaCon.

The ban will go into effect at 4 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 and run through noon Sunday, Dec. 15, the MTA said in a press release Tuesday.

“Our top priority is ensuring that Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road riders can celebrate safely,” MTA Police Chief John Mueller said in a statement. “The holiday season is a wonderful time of year, and we want everyone to get to their destination smoothly and on time while enjoying the festivities.”

There will be an increased police presence at Penn Station, Grand Central Madison and Grand Central Terminal, the MTA said.

Alcohol will be confiscated from violators and summonses will be issued by police, according to the MTA. Those who do not comply with may also be subject to removal from trains or stations by police.

As part of SantaCon festivities, dozens of revelers dress up in holiday-themed costumes and make their way to various bars in Manhattan every year.
