Amtrak service between Croton-Harmon and New York City remains suspended Monday morning because of structural issues at a privately owned building on Manhattan's West Side.
The agency said the problem was discovered inside a parking garage, located directly above the tracks, on West 51st Street betweet 10th and 11th Avenues. The garage is part of a larger residential tower.
Passengers can take Metro-North trains from Grand Central Terminal between the city and Croton-Harmon, where tickets will be cross-honored.
In a statement, Amtrak said customers with reservations on trains that are being modified “will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or another day."
They will also waive charges for customers looking to change their trip.
City Hall released a statement Sunday regarding the suspension, stating that the Department of Buildings issued emergency work orders for the garage.
"As soon as the city became aware of the issue, Department of Buildings engineers traveled to the site, assessed the situation, and notified other city agencies, as well as our partners at Amtrak and other transit services, in an effort to ensure the safety of all passengers and pedestrians,” the city’s statement reads. “In the interest of public safety, DOB immediately issued emergency work orders and ordered the owners of the parking garage to contract an engineer to address the issue, and Amtrak undertook changes to their train schedules."
Additional service changes include:
- Trains 233, 234, 235, 237, 240, 241, 244, and 280 are canceled
