Transit users who qualify for reduced fares can now ride trains and buses at half-price using OMNY, the MTA said in a statement Monday.

Reduced-fare customers can pay for rides using any personal payment device compatible with OMNY, according to the MTA. Each Monday through Sunday, reduced-fare OMNY users who have already purchased 12 rides will be able to commute for free the rest of the week.

Customers can switch from MetroCard to OMNY online by going to OMNY.info and creating a free OMNY account. Then, they can navigate to OMNY's digital assistant — which should appear on the bottom of the screen — input their MetroCard information and select an OMNY payment method. Customers can link OMNY to contactless credit cards, debit cards or smart devices.

Finally, users should input a card number and once it is approved, a success message will appear confirming the customer can receive a reduced fare on their card or device.

The MTA also released a video with instructions for switching from MetroCard to OMNY, which can be found here.

The OMNY call center can be reached at (877) 789-6669 seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist customers with the onboarding process as needed.

"Every day, the MTA is proud to help over one million seniors, disabled riders and other reduced-fare customers get around New York City," MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said in a statement. "As we continue to see more and more customers use OMNY, today is a major milestone towards a full transition to the easy, contactless system. I encourage everyone who is eligible to take advantage of the simple online process to switch over to OMNY and start tapping today."
