Five more MTA workers have died due to complications from coronavirus.
The employees were identified as Warren Tucker, a bus mechanic for almost five years; Ernesto Hernandez, a bus operator for 15 years; Caridad Santiago, a cleaner for 13 years; Victor Zapana, a supervisor in the Stations Department for almost 30 years; and Scott Elijah, a 15-year track worker.
NYC Transit Interim President Sarah Feinberg and Acting MTA Bus Company President Craig Cipriano issued a statement, saying, "They dedicated their lives to serving the public and keeping New Yorkers moving. This is a tragic loss for the city. Their families and friends are in our prayers."
Last week, two transit workers died from complications due to coronavirus. A third worker who was trying to evacuate a train that was on fire also died.
The MTA says there are 333 confirmed coronavirus cases at the MTA. 293 of them are at New York City Transit.
2,700 workers - including 1,700 in NYC Transit - are in quarantine.
