The MTA is in the early stages of testing a new technology to help trains run more efficiently.

It's known as Ultra-Wideband Tech.

The radio technology is meant to help improve the subway's signal system by letting the MTA locate trains.

It's designed to help trains run closer together and increase service.

The tech would also let straphangers use their phones between stations, where there typically is not service.

So far, the MTA has only conducted the technology along the F and G lines on Brooklyn's Culver Local line.

Updating the subway's signal system is one of three categories Governor Cuomo is hoping to improve it through the MTA's Genius transit challenge.

The initiative is awarding the winners of each challenge $1 million.
