Former Chief of Patrol John Chell has been sworn in as Chief of Department after being tapped to take over for Jeffrey Maddrey, who recently resigned.

Chell’s promotion is just the latest shakeup within the NYPD, which is facing mounting challenges from rising overtime costs and ongoing fear of random acts of violence in the city.
