Over 45,000 high school students in the city play one of the 25 sports offered by the city’s public schools.

But for middle school students in grades six through eight, the sports landscape looks completely different. They lack the same opportunity.

The New York Road Runners, the organization behind the New York City Marathon, wants to change that.

Rob Simmelkjaer, the CEO of New York Road Runners, joined “The Rush Hour” on Wednesday to discuss the over $3 million investment to launch and sustain middle school running teams.
