The Mets acquired shortstop Francisco Lindor and pitcher Carlos Carrasco in a trade with the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, the first blockbuster move under new owner Steve Cohen.

The Mets sent shortstops Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez, who were both with the big-league club in 2020, to Cleveland as part of the trade. Pitching prospect Josh Wolf and outfield prospect Isaiah Greene were also sent to Cleveland in the deal.

Cohen - a hedge fund manager who is worth more than $14 billion, according to Forbes - was widely expected to make a big splash upon taking over.

Acquiring Lindor, who is widely considered to be one of the best shortstops in baseball, would certainly qualify. The 27-year-old is a four-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner and a two-time Silver Slugger award winner. In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Lindor hit .258 with 8 home runs, 27 RBI and six stolen bases

Carrasco, who is 33, was first called up by Cleveland since 2009 and has spent his entire career with the Indians, pitching in all or part of 11 seasons. He led the American League in wins in 2017. He was diagnosed with leukemia in the summer of 2019, but was able to return in late August of that year, and was named the AL Comeback Player of the Year. In 2020, Carrasco had a 3-4 record with a 2.91 ERA and 82 strikeouts, and was again named the AL Comeback Player of the Year.

Rosario, once considered the Mets' top prospect and one of the top prospects in baseball, is coming off a down 2020. The 25-year-old had a .252 batting average, but it was coupled with a low .272 on-base percentage, four home runs, 15 RBI and zero stolen bases. He hit .287 with a .323 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, 72 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 2019. He has been playing at the big-league level since the summer of 2017.

Gimenez put up a solid showing during his MLB debut in 2020. The 22-year-old hit .263 with a .333 on-base percentage, three home runs, 12 RBI and eight stolen bases. He spent time at second base, third base and shortstop during the season.

Wolf was the Mets' second-round draft pick in 2019, and Greene was one of the team's two second-round draft picks in 2020. Baseball's minor leagues did not play in 2020 due to the pandemic, so Greene has not yet debuted at the minor-league level. Wolf last played for the Mets' rookie-ball team in the Gulf Coast League in 2019.
