The New York Mets paid tribute to Tom Seaver before their game against the Yankees on Thursday.

The team hung Seaver's number 41 jersey in the dugout before the game and kept it there during the game.

A tribute video was played before the game, and a moment of silence was held.

When they took the field at the start of the day, the Mets players tipped their caps in the direction of Seaver's retired number 41, which hangs above the upper deck of Citi Field in left field.

The Mets players also rubbed dirt on their right knees, a nod to Seaver's trademark drop-and-drive pitching motion.

Mr. Met, who normally wears a jersey with his name and the number 00 on the back of it, is instead wearing a #41 jersey for Thursday's game.

Earlier in the day, flowers were left in front of a "41" sign outside of Citi Field.

Bunting was also placed at a Citi Field entrance labeled "41 Seaver Way," which is the address where the stadium is located.

Seaver died Monday from complications from dementia and the coronavirus. He was 75.
