After starting his career as a Saint, former West Genesee basketball star Lucas Sutherland has decided to become a Bulldog. The ex-Wildcat announced his decision to transfer from Siena to Bryant University in Rhode Island on Twitter Friday afternoon.
Sutherland played sparingly for the MAAC champions as a freshman, scoring five points and pulling down seven rebounds in 34 minutes of action spread over seven games. He was also forced to quarantine for 14 days last month when two officials who had worked a Siena game tested positive for the coronavirus.
The 6-7 forward will have to sit out the 2020-21 season because of transfer rules pending the outcome of an NCAA vote later this month on a new one-time transfer rule.
Sutherland helped West Genesee with the 2019 Class AA boys' basketball state championship last March in his senior season with the Wildcats.
