Hundreds of worshippers filled the seats of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown Manhattan for Easter Sunday, one of the most important days on the Christian calendar.
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, three days after his death by crucifixion.
Faithful from across the country, including California and Alabama, packed the pews to attend Mass at the iconic church.
Those who celebrate say Easter is a time of hope, redemption and a fresh start for Christians.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan presided over one of several Masses held at the cathedral Sunday.
Dolan said with so much turmoil in the world, including the war in Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas war, hope is more important than ever this Easter.
“There’s no more hopeful place to me, than Mass on Easter Sunday morning,” Dolan said.
Those in attendance said that the message resonated with them.
“It’s definitely a year of redemption. It’s definitely a year of hope, not taking anything for granted anymore, enjoying the time we have with our loved ones and savoring every moment of it,” parishioner Erica Kennedy said.
