A police department trial of a high ranking-NYPD official has been put on hold, the NYPD said Thursday.

The NYPD confirmed on Thursday that Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey's administrative trial has been postponed. Sources tell NY1’s Dean Meminger that the trial is being pushed back several weeks.

The trial inside police headquarters was scheduled for Monday.

Sources tell NY1’s Dean Meminger that prosecutors and the chief are working to hammer out administrative issues and a possible settlement.

Maddrey is currently the NYPD’s highest-ranking uniformed officer.

He has been accused of abusing his power by having an arrest of a former cop who used to work for him tossed out in 2021.

The former officer was arrested after three young teens said he chased them with a gun after their basketball hit his family's storefront near Saratoga Avenue and Pacific Street in Brooklyn. At the time, Maddrey was the chief of community affairs.

Video from the 73rd Precinct showed Maddrey walking in and the former cop in a hoodie, giving the chief a handshake. The Civilian Complaint Review Board said the former cop's arrest was voided a short time after that.
