Edward Caban is expected to be officially named the NYPD’s new police commissioner on Monday, multiple sources said.
Caban would be the first Latino to lead the NYPD.
The police department would not confirm or deny that Caban will be named commissioner, but sources tell NY1’s Dean Meminger the announcement is expected Monday at 10 a.m. at the 40th Precinct in the South Bronx, where Caban started his career.
He has been with the department for more than three decades.
Caban stepped into the role as acting commissioner when Keechant Sewell resigned at the end of June.
Sewell, who had the position for about 18 months, announced she was stepping down but did not provide a reason why.
