Five people were shot and one was killed in a shooting on the Coney Island boardwalk late Saturday, police said.
The NYPD believes the five people shot were attendees at a party, a spokesperson said. The individual killed is a 42-year-old man, officials said. He was shot in the back and believed to be the intended target, according to police.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. near West 29th Street.
The department has not identified the dead man as they wait to notify the family.
The other four victims were transported to NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn and are in stable condition, officials said. A 49-year-old woman was shot in the right leg, a 34-year-old woman was shot in the right foot, and two men were both shot in the left leg, according to the NYPD.
“As NYPD detectives investigate the shooting of five people on the Coney Island Boardwalk Saturday night, they need assistance from anyone who may know something about this senseless violence,” NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell tweeted Sunday, asking anyone with information to call 1-800-5777-TIPS.
In July, five people were shot on the boardwalk blocks away near West 21st Street.
