Guns were confiscated from students at three city schools Wednesday, the NYPD confirmed.
Police say one gun was taken from a 15-year-old male student during a random scanning at Mott Haven High School in the Bronx.
A second, an unloaded .32 revolver, was taken from an 18-year-old student during full-time scanning at the Stevenson Campus in the Bronx, the NYPD says.
The NYPD says a third gun was taken at FDR High School in Brooklyn, from a 17-year-old male student.
All three students have been arrested, police say.
“Weapons of any kind have absolutely no place in our schools, and our outstanding School Safety Agents swiftly and safely recovered these items during screenings, ensuring that all students and staff are safe,” Department of Education spokesperson Nathaniel Styer said in a statement. “All protocols were followed, and we are working closely with NYPD regarding follow-up actions.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for the school safety agent union expressed frustration with City Hall.
"School safety agents face these kinds of things every day to protect our children and parents,” the statement reads. “When is city hall going to wake up?"
