Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday released a draft of the city's Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative plan.
With 36 proposals, the draft of the city’s plan focuses on five goals: transparency and accountability to the people, community representation, recognition of racialized policing, decriminalization of poverty, and a diverse, resilient, and supportive NYPD.
The plan will now move through a public comment period and will be revised based on the feedback from the public and City Council.
The plan comes in response to an executive order issued by Governor Andrew Cuomo mandating local governments approve police reforms and submit them by April 1, or risk losing state funding.
