Barbara Bush, 42, is the daughter of former President George W. Bush and granddaughter of former President George H.W. Bush, both Republicans.
In a statement to People, Barbara Bush said: “It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend. I’m hopeful they'll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
Her endorsement is the latest in a string of children of prominent Republicans who support Harris, a Democrat.
In a statement last week, Susan Ford Bales, the daughter of former President Gerald Ford, said: “America cannot regress back to a divisive paradigm of loathing toward one another and disdain for our Constitution. We witnessed on January 6 the horrors of what that looks like, and we can never allow a repeat of that tragedy.”
Jimmy McCain, son of the late Sen. John McCain, who was the 2008 Republican nominee for president, announced in September he has registered as a Democrat and will vote for Harris.
“I’m a center man who cares about his country more than anything,” McCain said.
And former Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter Liz Cheney, a former Republican congresswoman from Wyoming, have crossed the aisle to back Harris. Liz Cheney has also campaigned with the vice president.
“I tell you, I have never voted for a Democrat, but this year, I am proudly casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said at a campaign event earlier this month in Ripon, Wisconsin.
The former congresswoman has been a vocal critic of Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
A married mother of two, Barbara Bush is a nonprofit leader and author.
Her father has not endorsed a candidate in the election.
