  • Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz defended running mate Kamala Harris for saying earlier this week that she would not have done anything differently than President Joe Biden over the past four years

  • In an interview with ABC News’ “Good Morning America” that aired Friday, Walz said he thinks Harris, with her initial answer, was trying to say that her values on the issues have not changed

  • Former President Donald Trump and his allies have seized on Harris’ remarks as they try to directly link her to Biden policies they say have hurt the country, including on immigration and the economy

  • Walz was also asked in the ABC interview about a number of false statements he’s made, including that he was in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 and that he carried weapons in war while in the National Guard

Harris made the comment in response to a question when she appeared on “The View.”

“There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of — and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” she said.

Harris later revisited the question and repeated a promise to appoint a Republican to her Cabinet if elected.

In an interview with ABC News’ “Good Morning America” that aired Friday, Walz said he thinks Harris, with her initial answer, was trying to say that her values on the issues have not changed.

Harris and Biden "have been working for the middle class, they've been doing all they can to make sure prices come down, they're protecting reproductive care," he said.

Asked by “GMA” co-host Michael Strahan if he believes Biden has “done everything right,” Walz answered, “I don't know if any of us do everything right, but I can tell you he's done everything in the best interest of the American public.”

Former President Donald Trump and his allies have seized on Harris’ remarks as they try to directly link her to Biden policies they say have hurt the country, including on immigration and the economy.

"Lyin’ Kamala, who is being exposed as a 'dummy' every time she does a show, just stated to the degenerates on The View that she would have done nothing different than Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Tuesday.

Walz was also asked in the ABC interview about a number of false statements he’s made, including that he was in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 and that he carried weapons in war while in the National Guard. The VP candidate has said he misspoke and mixed up dates.

Harris has said Walz needs “to be a little more careful on how you say things.”

“They know who I am. I know who I am,” Walz told Strahan. “I know the work that I've done. I know that things get spun in a political environment. But I think what they see is, if they want to compare that talking about immigration policy or seeing the things that Donald Trump would say, I think there's a big difference than missing a date when you're there.”

Walz noted that he also misspoke during last week’s vice presidential debate when he said he made friends with school shooters — he was talking about school shooting survivors.

“Very clear that … I wear my emotions on my sleeve, and I do think in these positions, whether it be governor or being vice president of the United States, you do need to be careful,” he said. “You do need to be a little more thoughtful on it.”
