If you aren’t one of the 90 million Americans who have already filed your taxes, the Internal Revenue Service will offer free, in-person tax help Saturday before Monday's filing deadline.
Available at 70 locations around the country from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Tax Assistance Centers will provide face-to-face help from IRS employees.
“IRS employees have been working hard throughout this tax season to help taxpayers, and the special Saturday hours are one more way we’ve expanded our services,” IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said in a statement.
Funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, the one-day centers can help taxpayers with authenticating their identities, making account adjustments and making payments with a check or money order, among other services. Tax return preparation is not available.
Available on a first-come, first-serve basis, the IRS says individuals who use the assistance centers will need to bring a current government-issued ID and a second form of identification; Social Security or individual taxpayer identification numbers for themselves and all members of their household; IRS letters or notices that have been received; and a copy or digital image of the tax return if it’s been filed.
People who speak languages other than English will be able to use an over-the-phone interpretation service.
The IRS is also extending the office hours of many Tax Assistance Centers on Thursday and Tuesday. It will operate an additional Saturday TAC on May 18. To find a nearby location, visit the IRS TAC office locator.
