Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says her address has changed, but her home is still in the Bronx. After reports suggesting she is not living in the apartment listed on her voter registration, the firebrand freshman congresswoman acknowledges she has moved — but says she remains a resident of the congressional district she represents.

Responding to NY1's Myles Miller on Twitter on Sunday, Ocasio-Cortez defended her decision not to discuss where she lives.

Members of congress, who spend considerable time in Washington D.C., are not required to live in their district. A 2017 Washington Post report found that 21 congress members did not live in their district at the time. One of them was Joe Crowley, the powerful congressman Ocasio-Cortez replaced in a surprising primary upset in June. Crowley's decision to live in the Washington D.C. area rather than his New York City district was an issue in the campaign.

Other former elected officials have tried to conceal moves out of their districts, as NY1's Errol Louis explained in a tweet.

Ocasio-Cortez says she's found a new home in the Bronx, and while she currently doesn't have a district office, she says her team is working on finding and renovating spaces in the Bronx and Queens.
