The political action committee of a leading Rochester business group on Thursday is set to endorse two Democrats running for the state Senate in the city.

Both candidates, Samra Brouk and Jeremy Cooney, are running to replacing retiring Republican lawmakers Rich Funke and Joe Robach.

The Rochester Chamber of Commerce's PAC in its endorsements urged the city's business community to rally around both candidates.

"The Greater Rochester area has a vibrant business community and we must do what we can to support our local businesses, especially our women and minority-owned businesses during this difficult time. I am honored to be endorsed by the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and look forward to working alongside them and their members to bring resources back to our business community," Brouk said.

"In order to move Rochester, and Western New York forward, we must stimulate our economy by investing in new technology, our small businesses and ways to attract and retain talent in Western New York. I am ready to get to work for our business community and working families and cannot wait to hit the ground running."

Brouk is making her first run for the state Senate, Cooney is making his second bid for the chamber this year.

"The business community in Rochester needs a strong voice to fight for the resources they need to survive the current economic crisis," Cooney said. "I am honored that the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce’s Committee for a Strong Economy has endorsed my campaign and knows that I will be that voice in the State Senate for the 56th District and our communities."
