OHIO — Many people dream to live the life in Hollywood. But one couple chose gallops over glitz and glamour.
From living the Hollywood dream and posing on red carpets, Robert and Ashley Livingston went to Licking County and opened the Livingston Ranch with a common goal in their minds.
“Move out of the city and the hassle and bustle of Hollywood,” Robert said. “And come back and put our roots down here back in Ohio.”
While they shared the vision to open the ranch, in their hearts they carried two different dreams.
Robert’s was to be an actor.
His career kicked off initially as a professional dancer and after a world tour, Robert decided to move to Los Angeles and pursue his dream.
The first role he landed was on "Shameless" followed by "Fuller House" and much more.
“Growing up at even as a young child my dream was always to be on television or be in movies,” Robert said.
But Ashley’s aunt introduced him to horse riding from an early age.
Ashley said she remembers herself in diapers while sitting on a horse, and said she always wanted a horse ranch.
“My whole life I’ve been stuck with it and been really passionate about it,” Ashley said. “And I feel like every little girl at some point in their life wants a pony, and that just never went away, I wanted lots of ponies.”
At their ranch one of their horses is Frank, who also moved from California.
From horses, to two miniature donkeys —Willie and Nelson — to 16 chicks, their ranch has many mouths to feed.
Robert said it takes love to care for a place like this because it comes with its challenges.
“Owning horses and a horse ranch is a 24-hour, 365, a day year job,” Robert said.
But Robert and Ashley’s ranch carries a bigger meaning than just making a dream come true.
“Once we had a baby our son robert it kind of change everything put a lot of things into perspective for our family.”
Little Robert is 14 months old and is their first and only born son.
“I love the horses so much but you know everything we do is for our son,” Ashley said.
In the meantime Robert doesn’t need to compromise his acting.
Over the last few years things shifted and many businesses have turned to the digital business model.
Robert often auditions online.
“You can be an actor from anywhere as long as you have internet and a cell phone,” Robert said.
The Livingstons said a future vision for their ranch is to also bring therapeutic horseback riding to Licking County and open a children’s camp.
Weather permitting, they said their ranch will open May 1. For more information, you can visit The Livingston Ranch on Facebook.
Following what’s in their hearts and moving across the country, Robert and Ashley’s message is to go after your dream.
“I think the biggest thing is don’t let any dream make you scared if it’s a big one, because just do it, just go after it you can’t lose, you’ll never regret at least trying.”
