As New Yorkers prepare for the long weekend, many city services and businesses will be operating on a modified schedule in observance of Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 19.

Here’s what’s open, what’s closed, and what you need to know as you navigate the holiday.

Government offices and services

Federal, state and city government offices will be closed, including City Hall, courts and most administrative offices. Post offices will also be shut down for the day, with no regular mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service.

Transit and parking

The MTA will run on a weekend schedule on Presidents Day, meaning subway and bus service will have slightly modified schedules. Riders are encouraged to check MTA’s website or apps for real-time updates.

Alternate side parking rules will be suspended, and meters will not be in effect, according to the New York City Department of Transportation.

Schools and libraries

All New York City public schools will be closed in observance of the holiday.

All branches of the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Public Library will also be closed, according to the city.

Sanitation services

There will be no trash, compost or recycling collection on Monday.

If your regular collection day is Monday, the Department of Sanitation advises you to set your items out at the curb on Monday evening for pickup beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Be aware that collection delays are common following holidays.

Banks and stock market

Most banks will be closed on Presidents Day, though some local branches may remain open. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will also be closed. The U.S. bond market will also close for the day.

Retail and grocery stores

Most major retail stores, supermarkets, and pharmacies will remain open, though hours may vary. Shoppers should check with individual stores for specific holiday hours.
