There were more than 10,000 incidents from Oct. 7, 2023, to Sept. 24, 2024 — over a 200% increase from the 3,325 incidents during the same period the previous year, according to the report.

“Today, we mourn the victims of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in Israel, marking one year since the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” Jonathan Greenblatt, the Anti-Defamation League’s CEO, said in a statement. “From that day on, Jewish Americans haven’t had a single moment of respite. Instead, we’ve faced a shocking number of antisemitic threats and experienced calls for more violence against Israelis and Jews everywhere.”

Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and abducting 250 others. Following the attack, Israeli forces unleashed an extensive aerial bombardment and large-scale ground invasion in Gaza. More than 41,000 people, a little more than half of whom were women and children, have been killed in Gaza, according to local health officials.

As the war has raged, incidents targeting Jews have spiked in the U.S., according to the ADL.

The vast majority of the more than 10,000 antisemitic incidents — 8,015 — has been verbal or written communication, its report said. Over 1,840 have involved vandalism, and more than 150 were cases of physical assault, the ADL said.

At least 1,200 of those incidents occurred on college campuses, many of which were the site of heated protests in the spring. In the same time period a year before, there were about 200 incidents on campuses.

Over 2,000 antisemitic incidents happened at Jewish institutions, including synagogues and Jewish centers. More than half of those were bomb threats.

The ADL said it expects the overall numbers to rise even further — as it receives more incident reports from partners, law enforcement and victims — before it releases the final data for 2024 next spring.

Muslims have also been increasingly targeted since the Israel-Hamas war erupted. The Council on American-Islamic Relations said in July it documented 4,951 complaints about anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate in the first half of 2024 — a 69% rise compared to the same period in 2023.
