The governor on Sunday announced that a new Dominican Cultural Center will be built in northern Manhattan.

“I am proud to be here to announce that we are investing and supporting the culture of this vibrant community,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said at the Dominican Day Parade.

Hochul said $12.5 million in state funds will go toward the center, which will be led by the Dominican Studies Institute at the City College of New York. The center will be dedicated to celebrating the arts and culture of the Dominican Republic as well as New Yorkers of Dominican descent.

The news coincided with the 42nd annual National Dominican Day Parade, which stepped off in Manhattan Sunday afternoon.

Marchers made their way along Sixth Avenue from 37th to 55th streets.

Floats, traditional music and colorful costumes lined the route — all showcasing the history and traditions of the Dominican Republic.

"The Latin culture, the food, family, friends, we're here to have fun," said paradegoer Maria Mazurkevich, who was dressed in a recreation of last year's Miss Universe costume for the Dominican Republic. "I've been doing this for seven, eight years now."
