Brooklyn's subway system will experience temporary changes starting Monday as the MTA begins major accessibility improvements at the Church Avenue station in Flatbush.

During construction, which is expected to last until early next year, southbound B and Q trains will not stop at Church Avenue. The MTA said the project includes the installation of two new elevators from street to platform, two new stairways, a new fare control area, ADA-compliance upgrades and enhancements to platform edges, sidewalks and agent booths.

“The project will allow for increased accessibility for riders of all mobility, improved commuter flow, modernized design and improved visibility and enhanced safety with new platform edges,” the MTA said in a news release.

Through this fall, B trains will run on local tracks between Prospect Park and Kings Highway stations in both directions. Both B and Q trains will bypass Church Avenue on the local track.

Riders looking to travel to Church Avenue station should transfer at Beverley Road for a Manhattan-bound train, while those needing to travel from Church Avenue can transfer at Parkside Avenue for a Brighton Beach or Coney Island-bound train. Express tracks will remain out of service during this time.

Beginning in the fall and continuing through the end of the year, northbound B and Q trains will bypass Church Avenue on the local track. The express tracks will continue to be out of service.

Riders looking to access Church Avenue during this time can do so by accessing the southbound platform.

The construction coincides with phase three of the partial G train shutdown, which aims to modernize signals for improved reliability. Phase three will run from Aug. 12 to Sept. 3, during which G trains will not operate between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Avenue.
