A person in Department of Correction custody died at Bellevue Hospital Friday evening, the department said Saturday.

The man, identified as 51-year-old Roy Savage, had been at the hospital since he entered DOC custody on Nov. 30, 2023, following an appeal for a murder conviction in 2018, the DOC said.

"On behalf of the New York City Department of Correction, we extend our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased," DOC Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie wrote in a statement.

Savage is the third person to die in DOC custody in 2024, according to the department.

Manuel Luna, 30, was found unresponsive in his cell on Rikers Island by correction staff on Jan. 19 and was pronounced dead, and Chima Williams, 43, died after collapsing while playing basketball with a group of inmates at Rikers on Jan. 4, according to the DOC.
