A new electric vehicle charging hub opened to the public Monday morning in Midtown Manhattan.
Gravity, a New York-based, Google-backed startup, is behind the 24-stall charging station.
Located at 401 W. 42nd St., the EV hub will be the fastest of its kind in the country, capable of charging at a rate of 2,400 miles per hour, or 200 miles of range in approximately five minutes, Gravity said Monday.
“Automakers love to tout their EVs’ top driving speed, but what matters more than anything for drivers is how fast a car can charge,” Moshe Cohen, CEO of Gravity Inc., said in a statement. “Our technology can provide a car with 40 miles of range in just a minute of charging. With these speeds, we can push the entire industry to vehicles with faster-charging batteries.”
All major fleet operators as well as members of the public who own electric vehicles will have access to the charging ports, the company said.
The charging systems are ceiling-mounted, meaning they can be installed within existing parking spaces, with no additional space necessary, Gravity said.
The site is open seven days a week and has tap-to-go payments.
