A car crash on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway caused significant traffic delays Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the accident began when a tractor trailer traveling westbound on the BQE near Tillary Street overturned.

Three people sustained non-life threatening injuries from the crash, police said.

It is unclear what caused the tractor trailer to overturn in the first place.

The city's Department of Sanitation sent more than 15 pieces of equipment to the scene to clear the debris, which appeared to be scrap metal, the agency said.

Victims of the crash were transported to Lutheran Hospital by EMS.
