A man accused of going on a deadly stabbing spree in the city has been arrested, according to police.
Roland Codrington, a 35-year-old Manhattan resident, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, assault and criminal mischief after allegedly killing two people and injuring three others, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said at a press conference Monday.
Police say the string of attacks started on Dec. 19 when Codrington allegedly stabbed a 51-year-old male in the East Village. The victim was found with a laceration on his neck, and he eventually died at the hospital.
Three nights later, Codrington allegedly entered Teddy's Bar And Grill on Second Avenue with a pit bull and baseball bat, according to the NYPD. Just before midnight, Codrington choked a female employee with the bat, and when two men tried to intervene, they were stabbed.
A few hours later, police allege that Codrington stabbed another man, a 60-year-old doctor, in a nearby park. Police officers discovered the man inside Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem with multiple stab wounds on his body, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the NYPD, Codrington has been arrested 12 times before the stabbing spree for various crimes, including four assaults with weapons. Police are investigating whether Codrington is responsible for other random acts of violence in the city.
