A live cat was discovered inside a piece of luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport last week, a spokesperson with the Transportation Security Administration said.

The stowaway was found when an alarm went off at the checked baggage screening point in the airport on Nov. 16, TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said.

The airline passenger was alerted to the situation, and the traveler told officials the cat “belonged to someone else in his household,” Farbstein said.

It appears the cat crawled into the luggage and was unintentionally packed.

Both the TSA and Farbstein posted about the situation on social media Tuesday with Farbstein tweeting, “The cat’s out of the bag and safely back home.”
