The Greenpoint landing of the NYC Ferry officially reopened Monday morning after being closed for more than a year.
The ferry landing was closed back in May 2021 due to an issue with one of the pier piles, the agency said in a statement at the time. A free shuttle bus to Hunters Point South was serving ferry-goers during the closure.
“We are thrilled to be bringing NYC Ferry service back to Greenpoint and look forward to welcoming riders on Monday,” Jeff Holmes, senior vice president of public affairs at the city Economic Development Corporation, said in a statement. “We appreciate the patience of Greenpointers, and all NYC Ferry riders, as we worked with Lendlease to safely restore the landing.”
The announcement was celebrated by some elected officials. Mayor Eric Adams praised the reopening on Twitter as “once again charting a course for Greenpoint.”
Councilwoman Amanda Farias, who was the chairperson for the first hearing on the ferry, tweeted she is glad the area will “no longer be deserted on Monday.”
The reopening of the Greenpoint stop comes as plans to bring ferry service to Coney Island remain in limbo.
