William Pride says it has been about seven years since he last saw the alleged Brooklyn subway shooter, Frank James. Pride says he was James' neighbor in a Bronx apartment building.

“I never thought he would do something like this,” said Pride who’s lived in the Morrisania building for over 10 years. “Dude used to live in this building, he used to live right there 1B."

What You Need To Know

  • William Pride said eight years ago the alleged Brooklyn subway shooter lived in an apartment building in the Morrisania section of the Bronx

  • Pride, 61, has lived in the apartment building for over 10 years and said James stuck to himself

  • Pride said James would talk about "doing stuff to the government, police and firemen"

Pride, 61, said during that time James pretty much stuck to himself.

“I’ve never seen him hang out with nobody, I don’t know if he’s antisocial or not, but I’ve never seen him with nobody,” Pride said.

After James’ photo was released to the public Tuesday, Pride said about 25 law enforcement officials, including the FBI, showed up at the building.

“They searched the whole building, basement and everything,” revealed Pride. “They didn’t know where to look so people were coming out, like I was coming out to pick up the kids,” he added.

Looking back, Pride said James would say things that might have concerned him.

“He always talked about doing stuff to the government, police, the fireman,” Pride said.

But he admits he never thought he would act on anything.

“He was wrong, none of those people did anything to him,” he said.

Pride, who’s a grandfather of two, says it's all still very shocking to him, especially since James allegedly harmed innocent people and among them young children.

“He attacked civilians so I don’t respect that, innocent people on the train. C'mon man,” said Pride.
