NEW YORK — If you plan on taking any trains this holiday weekend, there are some important changes you should know about.

Subways are operating on a Saturday schedule on Friday 12/31 and Saturday 1/1.

There will also be reduced service with trains running less frequently.

The MTA says you should check mta.info for travel information before you go.

The transit agency is also banning alcohol starting at 12 p.m. Friday on Long Island Rail Road and Metro North trains.

That lasts until 12 p.m. Saturday.

Alcohol will also be prohibited on platforms during these hours.

The MTA police department will have extra officers to enforce these rules.

Alternate side parking rules and meters will not be in effect Friday 12/31 and Saturday 1/1.

In Manhattan, street closures will also be in effect Friday. They include:

  • Seventh Avenue, from 42nd to 49th street
  • Broadway, from 42nd to 49th street
  • 43rd to 48th street, from Sixth to Eighth avenues

Times Square will also be closed to traffic for Friday night's celebration.

Some streets will be used for entry points and screening including 38th Street, 49th Street, 52nd Street and 56th Street — all between Sixth and Eighth avenues.

The city Department of Sanitation is also reminding New Yorkers that Friday 12/31 collection is still in effect, but Saturday 1/1 collection will be suspended for the holiday.
