New York City’s hospitalization rate continued ticking upwards Tuesday, as the omicron COVID-19 variant spreads across the five boroughs.

The latest numbers from the mayor's office show the city’s seven-day average hospitalization rate is now at 4.76 per 100,000 people, with 332 new patients admitted to city hospitals for coronavirus on Monday.

That number is up from 3.7 per 100,000 on Christmas Day, according to information released from City Hall.

Mayor de Blasio said 296 new COVID patients were admitted to city hospitals the previous day.

The city reported nearly 21,000 new positive COVID cases Tuesday, up from 17,334 positive cases the day prior, according to city health data. The city’s seven-day average COVID positivity rate now stands at 13.7%. 

Meanwhile, statewide, more than 19% of COVID tests came back positive Monday, with more than 40,000 new cases, according to state data.

Over the last 24 hours, 77 people died from COVID across the state.

On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul also shared data showing omicron accounted for 73% of COVID cases over the past two weeks in the state.
