Mayor-elect Eric Adams announced a new list of transition committee appointments Friday while he continued his travels through Ghana.

Adams' new transition committees are in addition to the transition team he announced last month. The group is made up of 19 committees and includes more than 700 names covering a wide range of topics, including everything from public safety to housing, food insecurity, technology and the arts.

What You Need To Know

  • The appointments committee specifically is in the process of helping Adams assemble his cabinet

  • The list also includes several people who worked in the Bloomberg administration

  • The list includes a wide-ranging group of people making up a sort of who's who of government experts, advocates, business leaders, current and former administration officials

“This unprecedented collection of great minds and hard-working New Yorkers will prepare my administration for success because they represent the many backgrounds and views of our great city, and they are committed to working together toward its bright future,” Mayor-elect Adams said in a statement.

According to the campaign, each committee leader will be tasked with providing a policy paper focused on their specific area of expertise and provide feedback as the incoming mayor gears up to take office on January 1.

The list includes a wide-ranging group of people, making up a sort of who’s who of government experts, advocates, business leaders, current and former administration officials, including several who worked in the Bloomberg administration.

Andrea Shapiro Davis, who is currently Interim vice chancellor for University Advancement at CUNY and spent 12 years in the administration of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, is leading the appointments committee. Davis was in charge of Bloomberg's office of appointments. Anthony Crowell, who also served under Bloomberg and is currently the dean and president of the New York Law School, is also helping to lead the appointments committee.

The appointments committee specifically is in the process of helping Adams assemble his cabinet.

Sources tell NY1 Maria-Torres Springer, who was housing commissioner under de Blasio, is in consideration to become deputy mayor for Housing. Jimmy Oddo, the outgoing Staten Island Borough President, is being considered as deputy mayor of Operations, and Sheena Wright, who is leading the Adams' transition, is being considered for a job as deputy mayor of special projects.

Sources also confirmed Adams will create a deputy mayor for public safety, a new position which could create some tension with whoever Adams ultimately ends up appointing as NYPD commissioner.

Phil Banks, who was NYPD Chief of Department and retired in 2013, is seriously being considered for that post. Banks has also been informally advising Adams on public safety.

Editor's note: A previous version of this article misstated that more than 1,500 people are part of the transition team. The correct number is more than 700 people.
