NEW YORK — Police have detained and are interviewing a passenger after a plane made an emergency landing at LaGuardia Airport on Saturday afternoon, according to the Port Authority.

Republic Airlines flight 4817 from Indianapolis landed safely on Runway 4 around 3 p.m., according to preliminary information from the Port Authority, and all 76 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated from the plane. The plane’s captain ordered the deployment of the chutes to evacuate the passengers.

The plane made the landing due to reports from other passengers of suspicious and erratic behavior by the passenger who is being questioned, Port Authority officials said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said later in the evening there was “no reason to believe there is any danger to New Yorkers at this time.”

LaGuardia Airport tweeted shortly before 8 p.m. that the airport is running normally.
