NEW YORK — Police have arrested a man who they say hit a man in the head with a hammer inside a Manhattan subway station over the weekend.
Investigators say Jamar Newton, 41, of Brooklyn faces assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession charges.
The attack, which was caught on camera, took place just after 9 p.m. Saturday on the northbound platform of the N/R line at Union Square.
According to police, Newton got into a verbal dispute with the 44-year-old victim after he allegedly looked at him.
Police say he then took out a hammer and struck the victim in the back of the head, causing him to fall onto the train tracks.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
