BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Subway riders who use the D train in southern Brooklyn are in for more than three months of service changes as the MTA makes improvements to protect against future storms.
Starting Sept. 18, D service between Bay 50th Street and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue will be suspended until Jan. 3.
Free shuttle buses will run between both stops during the shutdown.
Service is being suspended so crews can fortify the Coney Island Yard Complex, which is one of the largest mass transit yards in North America.
New flood walls, flood gates, drainage and pump stations will be added.
The goal is to protect the area from storms like Hurricane Sandy.
