Thursday marks the 63rd anniversary of an iconic photograph, affectionately known as “A Great Day in Harlem.”

The year was 1958. Fifty-seven members of the jazz community gathered on a stoop in East Harlem to pose for a picture.

A ceremony was supposed to take place between East 126th Street between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue to co-name the block in honor of the photographer responsible for the historic moment, but the city pulled the plug on the ceremony because of a heat warning.

Jonathan Kane, the son of photographer Art Kane, joined "NY1 Live At Ten" Anchor Cheryl Wills on Wednesday night to talk about the history of the incredible photo.
