A 16-year-old has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that wounded a 21-year-old Marine in Times Square last month, the NYPD said Wednesday.
According to the NYPD, the teen is also charged with assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
The NYPD says he will not be identified because of his age.
According to authorities, 21-year-old Samuel Poulin was shot in the back on Seventh Avenue in the area of 46th and 47th streets on June 27, right outside the Marriott Marquis hotel and just steps from where a triple shooting took place in May.
The NYPD says the victim was an unintended target during a fight between two groups.
In response to the shooting, the mayor announced that at least 50 additional police officers have been deployed to the area, which already had a heavy police presence.
