QUEENS, N.Y. — The woman charged in the hit-and-run death of an NYPD detective was denied bail Tuesday in a court hearing in Queens.
Prosecutors say Jessica Beauvais, 32, was driving under the influence when she ran down Highway Unit officer Anastasios Tsakos back in April.
Tsakos was directing traffic after a previous car crash on the Long Island Expressway when he was hit.
"You hear the defense talk about, 'She'll be good, she'll be fine, put a bracelet on her ankle and she'll stay home'. Well her actions that day prove that she will do anything to flee," said New York City Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch.
If convicted, Beauvais faces up to 15 years in prison.
