About 2,000 friends, family and fans of rapper DMX flooded the streets in front of White Plains Hospital, where he is being treated after he was admitted there on Friday following a heart attack that sources have linked to a drug overdose.

Some of those who came said that they knew DMX personally, but others said they were simply impacted by his music.

What You Need To Know

  • On Monday afternoon, rapper DMX was reportedly still fighting for his life after suffering a heart attack on Friday that sources linked to a drug overdose

  • Thousands of friends, family and fans of the rapper gathered outside White Plains Hospital for a vigil

  • Speakers were set up in the back of a pick up truck and played several of DMX’s hit songs after the prayer vigil ended

Everyone who spoke with NY1 said that they were there to show their support for DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, as he continues to fight for his life.

“We love you. The community is here to support you,” said Melody Jimenez, a fan who came with three balloons that together spelled DMX.

“I know DMX personally. My heart and my prayers go out to him and his family. He’s like a brother. He’s more than a friend, he’s a brother,” said Letitia Criers of growing up in Yonkers with DMX.

Sources said Monday that the 50-year-old’s condition remained grave and that he remained in a coma and on a ventilator.

Still, fans were holding out hope that he could still somehow hear them chant his name and rap along to his hit songs outside the hospital.

“I grew up with DMX, when DMX used to do the beat box back in the day, cause I was a rapper too. So, when I got the call to do the sound and play the music for his vigil in front of White Plains Hospital, I said, It’s a no brainer, I’m there, let’s do it, ” said DJ Tri State Jericko.

Members of the Ruff Ryders Motorcycle club also made a strong showing at the vigil that was held outside the hospital on Monday evening.

DMX often raps about the Ruff Ryders in his songs.

The rapper has reportedly struggled with addiction for years.

Sources have said that DMX was working on a new project before being hospitalized.

Several of those in attendance said they hoped their prayers for DMX’s recovery would be answered.
