NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department has fired a deputy inspector for posting racist rants online.
James Kobel worked for the NYPD's Equal Employment Opportunity Division.
In October, the NYPD received a report accusing him of posting on a law enforcement message board under the pseudonym "Clouseau".
The report said the messages often expressed racist, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, and homophobic sentiments, many directed at city officials.
Kobel denied all of the accusations.
In a statement about his firing, the NYPD said it thoroughly investigated the matter and that Kobel's "misconduct was so egregious and so contradicted the values of this department that ultimate accountability was essential.”
Kobel will keep his pension despite being fired.
