NEW YORK — Nicole Odom has been demanding answers about her daughter Brandy's horrific horrific death, ever since the 26-year-old was found dismembered in a Brooklyn park more than two years ago.
"Everybody loved her. So I don't know who in their right mind would've wanted to do her like that,” Nicole Odom said in April 2018.
Now authorities have charged a couple in connection with the death. The FBI arrested Cory Martin and Adelle Anderson in New Jersey on Wednesday, charging they conspired to kill Odom to collect on two life insurance policies worth a total of $200,000. They were charged with insurance fraud and identity theft.
The medical examiner found that Odom died of asphyxiation. Her family identified her scattered body parts by a tattoo.
"My niece got murdered and mutilated like that, chopped up like a piece of garbage. It's very hurtful to be here,” Brandy’s aunt, Tiarria Odom, said in Canarsie Park in April 2019, the anniversary of her death.
Anderson is accused of posing as Odom's sister to cash out the insurance policy. She was released on bond. Her partner, Martin, is considered a flight risk and was detained. While he hasn't been charged with murder, the feds are investigating whether he actually killed killed her.
The federal charges of insurance fraud and identity theft carry penalties of up to 22 years in prison.
Authorities say they also are investigating whether the couple ran a prostitution ring.
