NEW YORK - Most poll workers have to get to polling sites by 5 a.m. on Election Day to be ready to welcome voters at 6 a.m.

But the MTA has no plans to restart overnight subway service on Tuesday, though it is offering transportation advice to the Board of Elections.

The subway will remain closed for cleaning between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Election Day.

MTA chairman Pat Foye says if a poll worker's commute takes more than 90 minutes or requires more than two bus transfers, they can get a free cab or car service ride that morning.

But the Board of Elections will foot the bill for those rides, not the MTA.

Transit officials also say the Board is responsible for informing employees about overnight alternatives to the subway.
