Grieving friends of 25-year-old Priscilla Vazquez laid flowers and lit candles at the sight where she was shot dead.
The shooting scene on 152nd Street off Cortlandt Avenue is just around the corner from her home, where the mother of three lived with her young children.
A friend, who only wished to go by "Chucky,” was there with others setting up a memorial.
"As soon as I heard the news, I came over here.” said Chucky. “I couldn't believe it. I was just texting her yesterday, talking about when we were going to link up again."
Just before 5:30 A.M. Saturday morning, police say they responded to a 911 call.
When they arrived, Vazquez was unconscious and unresponsive, with a gun shot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Well, I wasn’t here, but she was hanging out with my friends. She was just here smoking her hookah,” said Chucky.
An eyewitness who did not want to be on camera said he was sitting next to Vaquez while hanging out.
The witness said Vazquez saw someone with a gun and told everyone to run.
When he looked back, she was on the ground. Once he saw blood, he says he called 911.
"That was not meant for her,” Chucky said. “She's suppose to be here smoking hookah with me, with everybody."
Friends and neighbors say the young mother adored her children and took them everywhere with her.
Her youngest is three and the oldest just is nine, now left motherless.
Friends say she loved to cook, especially for her kids.
"She had a cooking page. She wanted everyone to taste her cooking. She loved to cook. It was her passion,” Chucky said.
Vazquez is the victim of one of the more than a dozen shooting incidents across this city in the first half of the weekend.
Police say no arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.
