Accredited driving schools can now conduct distance learning for those seeking a license.
It will all be done via video conference.
Before the pandemic, students were required to complete the required course in person.
Effectively that's kept many teenagers from getting their driver's license since March.
"They'll use zoom and Webex and Skype. Whatever technology they deem appropriate. We understand that student drivers cannot appear in person, and this will allow them to participate online so they can get their driver’s license and they can do it safely,” said Governor Cuomo.
New drivers who complete the five hour course online will still need to take a DMV road test, which presents yet another obstacle.
The DMV is open in the city, but there's a backlog in the new "reservation only" system.
