A man was struck by a train and killed Friday after trying to break up a fight on a Manhattan subway platform, the city police department said.
It happened around 3:25 P.M. on the southbound platform of the 125th Street station on the 2 and 3 line in Harlem.
The NYPD said the victim, whose identity was not released as of this writing, intervened in a dispute between two women but ended up getting into a fight with another man involved.
At some point due to the fight, according to police, the victim fell onto the platform and the train hit him. He was caught between the platform and the train, suffered severe head trauma, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other man fled the scene. He was described as being in his 40s and 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt.
Police are investigating. No arrests were announced as of 5 P.M.
