The FDNY and Department of Buildings engineers are on the scene in Brooklyn hours after a massive building collapse occurred at 348 Court Street.
City officials say one person suffered minor injuries while self-evacuating from the building, but the building was vacant otherwise and no other people were injured.
The collapse happened just before 4:30P.M.
According to the Department of Buildings, there have been complaints about the location for decades, and one filed as recently as June 10 for failure to maintain the building.
A gym at the location recently posted on social media that it was working on upgrading the exterior.
Department of Buildings Deputy Commissioner of Enforcement Timothy Hogan said a “Stop Work Order” had been issued to the building owner, and that it will be demolished Wednesday night.
Hogan also said that the surrounding buildings on Court Street have been evacuated as well, out of extreme caution.
The FDNY is warning residents to avoid Court Street through Butler and President Street as emergency teams continue to operate on the scene.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the building collapse, though Hogan mentioned there were problems with the facade and interior wall of the building.
